Dear Alumni/ae, Parents, and Friends of Brown Sailing:

The Brown Sailing Team has one more day of practice left before heading to the Intercollegiate National Dinghy Championship in Charleston, SC. The coed team is ready and very excited to get down to Charleston for some great racing after winning the New England Championship three weeks ago at Brown. Heading to Nationals from the Bears are the A-division team of skipper Charles Enright '07 (Bristol, RI) and crews Arlene Chung '06 (Murrysville, PA) and Jennifer Bauer '06 (Lockport, NY). Richard Hale '06 (Annapolis, MD) will skipper B-division with crews Monica Stein '07 (Redwood City, CA), Jessica Majno '08 (Sudbury, MA), Meris Tombari '08 (Fishers Island, NY), and Will Turnbull '08 (Sausalito, CA). Matthew Amarante '08 (Wayne, NJ) will be the extra skipper and it looks like a large number of other Brown Bears will be coming down as well to support the team.

On behalf of the entire Brown Sailing program, I want to thank everyone who has supported us and helped this team remain one of the best sailing teams in all of college sailing. The Alumni Regatta and Dedication of the New Fleet was Saturday, May 13th and was a great success. All 24 boats were filled at the event by Alumni, Parents, and current Brown sailors for some great racing despite the rainy weather. Afterwards, a huge turnout of more than 80 sailors and supporters were on hand for a great ceremony recognizing and thanking all of our donors who made the new fleet possible. The ceremony, held in the Darby Room at the Edgewood Yacht Club, was led by Brown Sports Foundation Executive Director Steven King '91. We cannot thank all of our donors enough, as well as all of the Alumni and Parents who attended. A huge thanks as well to the Edgewood Yacht Club, the Brown Sailing Team, and Steven King, Associate Vice President of Development Ron Dalgliesh '91, Athletic Director Michael Goldberger, Associate Athletic Director Matthew Tsimikas, and Nicole Peters and Tom Hefferman from the Brown Sports Foundation who helped make this event possible.

Thanks to everyone and we hope this week will be a successful one for Brown Sailing. Racing begins on Wednesday, May 31st through Friday, June 2nd and can be followed online at www.collegesailing.org. I will send an update when we return and look for your June Sailing Newsletter in the mail soon. We still have a long way to go to meet our Annual Budget needs and we continue to look for your support to reach our goals.

Best,
John

2006 Alumni Regatta
The annual Brown Sailing Alumni Regatta saw a great turnout and some great racing despite cool temperatures and rain. All 24 boats were filled by Alumni, Parents, and team members. Four races weres sailed on Gold Cup courses with winds out of the North at 3-6 knots. The Classes of 1996 and 2005 were the best represented, but Class of 2003 sailors Whitney Besse and Sarah Hale won the closely contested event by five points over Assistant Coach Dan Rabin and crew Matthew Amarante '08. Thanks to everyone who attended as well as the Brown Sailors who helped out and Dr. Tom Enright P'07 for having his beautiful powerboat out for spectating. We hope to see all of you next May for another great event.
