From
Dot to Globe:
Information, Identity and the Invention of Singapore
14th and 15th April 2006
Brown University
With
increasing knowledge of globalisation and its effects, people
all over the globe have begun to conceive of themselves as actors
and participants in events beyond their personal lives or even
the borders of their nation-states.
However,
in heavily-censored Singapore, outlets for such emotions are
taking on political meanings that have the potential to disrupt
the regulations and state-constructed image of society.
This
Lecture Series, by creating a forum for prominent, self-driven
Singaporeans to meet with Singaporean students from North-eastern
USA, aims to create a conducive environment in which to discuss
this process and its social, political and economic ramifications
on Singapore.
