*SEMESTER SPRING 2006*
LIST OF EVENTS
Feb 3rd 2007 Ebony Soiree
Feb. 6th 2006 Lecture with Professor Fatton
This
is SOCA, a group on campus which acts as an interest group
to those who are, feel and identify as persons of Caribbean
ancestry. It is here as a resource to teach others about
the Caribbean, a small group of nations, linked by geographical,
historical ties. The Caribbean is more than just beach,
and sea, and even more than two tune on a dub plate in
a dance, and definitely more than some rice and peas and
curry goat. This group aims to show the Caribbean for
what it is, what it is not and what it hopes to be.
Purpose:
To promote fellowship among the group members of those students
of Caribbean heritage through discussion groups, forums,
social gatherings, and other activities pertinent to Caribbean
life, as well as, sharing Caribbean issues, culture and
perspectives with the larger Brown Community.
Membership:
Membership of SOCA is open to all members of the Brown Community
and does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color,
religion, disabilities, status as a veteran, sexual orientation
or national or ethnic origin. Majority membership consists
of full-time undergraduate Brown students.
