COMMON LOAN QUESTIONS:
When will I hear about my eligibility for loans?
Until processing loans for the upcoming year is activated (generally in late May for the upcoming Academic year) loan eligibility determinations won’t be formally communicated to you. Loan eligibility notification is communicated to you through your Brown email address, provided we have received your 2012-2013 FAFSA for the 2012-2013 year.
Determining your eligibility on your own...
Students who must make plans for finances prior to hearing about loan eligibility may determine their eligibility for loans by completing this worksheet; this exercise can help assist students with financing decisions before the start of the upcoming year. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email the Office of Financial Aid for Graduate Students.
I was advised of my loan eligibility but my loans are not yet available. Why?
Students who have been advised of their loan eligibility but do not yet have their loans may be indicative of a problem. To determine any missing requirements that may be holding up your loan disbursements, please log on to Brown Self Service and follow the links to Financial Aid Requirements. Or, please email us with any questions and concerns and we will be happy to investigate the issue.
NOTE: The enrollment period for which the loan period applies must have also started; Brown University can not disburse loans to student prior to actual enrollment.
I submitted my FAFSA but never heard about loan eligibility. Why?
If you do not have any loans in offered status, viewable at selfservice.brown.edu then chances are we did not receive your FAFSA application, or your data did not load properly. Sometimes this can occur if there are discrepancies with your your social security number. Please email the Office of Financial Aid for Graduate Students for assistance.
