Retiree Health and Dental Plans

Retiree Health Plans

Brown University works with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) and Doctor's Choice to offer eligible retirees the opportunity to enroll in one of two retiree-paid health programs. Both programs include prescription drug coverage. This benefit is available to all retired faculty and staff age 65 and above, as well as spouses also age 65 and above.

BlueCHiP

BCBSRI offers eligible Brown retirees BlueCHiP for Medicare Group Preferred, a comprehensive, coordinated care plan for retirees eligible for Medicare Parts A and B. This plan is designed for retirees whose legal residence is in Rhode Island. This plan also:

  • Provides an extensive statewide network of providers.
  • Provides all of the same benefits as original Medicare, along with coverage for annual physicals, eyeglasses, dental services, hearing aids, and fitness memberships.

Individual BlueCHiP for Medicare plans are also available through BCBSRI.
