A Message from President Christina Paxson
Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
Since arriving on campus a little more than two years ago, I have been struck by the spirit, generosity, and collaboration among the faculty, staff, and students who make up this wonderful University community. But sadly, there are many people right here in Rhode Island who do not enjoy that spirit of community because of economic hardship. They know the pain of hunger; they do not have access to affordable housing; and they cannot pay for vital medications. As the chair of the 2015 BROWN GIVES charities drive, I invite you to join me in helping our fellow Rhode Islanders because, together, we can do more.
BROWN GIVES supports two organizations: The Fund for Community Progress and United Way of Rhode Island. The Fund directly supports more than two dozen grassroots organizations such as AIDS Project Rhode Island, Habitat for Humanity, and the RiverzEdge Community Arts Project. United Way uses its Community Impact Fund to solve Rhode Island’s most pressing issues of improving education, enhancing job skills, creating affordable housing, and connecting people to needed services.
Together, we can make significant progress toward enhancing the Rhode Island community around us.
Christina H. Paxson
