Sheridan Center for Teaching & Learning
Tuesday, October 29th 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Sheridan Center 96 Waterman St. This roundtable discussion will explore the challenges and rewards of conducting online discussions. Examples are provided from Brown's Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), but best practices are applicable to other online pedagogies. Topics we will discuss include: the role discussion forums play within these large courses; methods for fostering a sense of community among students; dealing with difficult or controversial subjects; and practical and administrative strategies for managing online discussions. There will be ample opportunities for conversation and questions among participants. Bring a brown-bag lunch if you would like. RSVP to reserve a place at this workshop. Please register even if the event is fully subscribed, as spaces may open later due to cancellations.
