Examples are provided from Brown's Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), but best practices are applicable to other online pedagogies. Topics we will discuss include: the role discussion forums play within these large courses; methods for fostering a sense of community among students; dealing with difficult or controversial subjects; and practical and administrative strategies for managing online discussions. There will be ample opportunities for conversation and questions among participants. Bring a brown-bag lunch if you would like. RSVP to reserve a place at this workshop.
