safeRIDE Updates and New Service Features

November 4, 2011

Changes in the Knowledge District, including the recent opening of the Warren Alpert Medical School, along with other community transportation needs necessitated the review of all safeRIDE shuttle and related services by the Transportation Office. An extensive analysis was conducted with the assistance of a transportation consultant and our shuttle vendor looking at all aspects of current operations including ridership, stop location, logistics, and customer service. The recommendations concluded in a number of improvements to the operation and enhanced service features outlined as follows:

  • A new online real-time shuttle tracking system powered by Ride System servicing both Brown Med/Downcity (daytime) and the Brown Campus Shuttle (evening)
  • New safeRIDE signage with text indicators
  • Shuttle stop texting providing arrival time of next two shuttles
  • Twitter updates
  • Ride System applications on your iPhone or Droid
  • Online registration and request a ride option for Brown onCall
  • Route modifications decreasing wait times for the BrownMed/Downcity and Brown Campus shuttles
