Boston Marathon - Brown Community Update

Dear Members of the Brown Community,

Our thoughts this evening are with the victims and families affected by today's tragedy in Boston. We know that members of the Brown community participated in the marathon, and we are taking steps to confirm their safety. At this point, we are not aware of any members of the community directly affected or among the injured. Services are available to any student, faculty or staff in need of support; the Administrator-on-Call and Psychological Services can be reached through the Department of Public Safety at (401) 863-3322.

We have been in touch with local law enforcement authorities who are closely monitoring the events in Boston. We have been advised that while members of the community may see a heightened security presence in some areas, there are no local security threats or concerns in Providence nor any changes to University operations.

Officials in Boston are requesting that people avoid the Copley Square area and non-essential travel to the City is best avoided in the coming days.

We will continue to update the community with additional information as necessary.
Sincerely,
Russell C. Carey
Executive Vice President, Planning and Policy
