Leavetaker Housing for Semester 1

Regular Housing Lottery

A. Re-enrollment: Make sure you have notified an academic dean of your intention to re-enroll in in a fall semester by March.

B. Proxy: Students on leave in spring are usually not able to attend the lottery. You may have a friend who will participate on your behalf as a "proxy." Your proxy can include you in their housing group, or they can represent you individually. Email Residential Life the full name and Brown ID# of the student who is serving as your proxy. Alternatively, your proxy may fill out the Proxy Form at the ResLife Office. The Proxy form is a very simple form asking for both of your names and Brown ID numbers.

C. Register: Complete the online lottery application  in March.

Summer Housing Assignment

If you missed the housing lottery, fill out a Housing Preference Form by mid June; forms are processed in July. If you do not complete a form, your housing will be randomly assigned.

Vacancy Pull-In

If your friend/friends have a vacancy in either a room or suite they would like you to fill, all parties involved must sign the Vacancy Pull-in Form. Forms are due by mid-June and processed in July.

Off-Campus Permission

Off-campus permission is offered for the academic year (September to May) only. To receive off-campus permission, you must submit the Off-Campus Application Form by the stated deadline. A proxy cannot complete this application for you.

A. All rising juniors and seniors are eligible to apply for off-campus permission. Applications are approved in order of seniority.

B. Off-campus permission is only guaranteed to rising seniors who meet the application deadline. All other applicants are advised to participate in the Lottery to obtain housing even if they are on the waitlist for off-campus permission.

C. No student should sign a lease for an off-campus apartment before receiving official off-campus permission from the Office of Residential Life.

D. All undergraduate students are required to live in University residence halls for a minimum of 6 semesters unless they have off-campus permission or are a Resumed Education Program student, married student, local student living with their parents, or residing in BACH co-op housing.
