Senior Lecturer in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies
Patricia Sobral is a Senior Lecturer in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies and was raised in Brazil and the United States. She has lived all her life between and in the midst of several cultures, and her teaching practice intersects the arts and foreign language acquisition and the reading and writing of texts. Prof. Sobral likes to bring people together—she enjoys spending time with students and advisees and believes that brainstorming is an effective way to gain multiple understandings and process ideas. (She believes what her father once told her, that “people talk to hear themselves think.”) She collects handmade paper and makes art; she also enjoys long walks, listening to music, trying to practice yoga, and the way her kids see the world.
