Course lottery, CHEM 100-web course, Health forms

June 20th, 2014

Dear incoming students, This week's email contains information about the second round of the first-year course lottery and the online Chem 100-web course.First-year Course Lottery We will send you an email when the placements from the first round of the course lottery have been made.  The second round of the lottery opens next Monday, June 23, and closes on July 8 at 5 pm; if you have not yet selected a first-year seminar, we strongly encourage you to do so.  If you were placed in a CAP course in the first round, you can select a non-CAP first-year seminar (FYS) in the second round.  Go to the Summer Deadlines Checklist to access the lottery; anyone who entered but was not placed in the first round will have priority placement in the second. Remember that if you are in either PLME or UCAAP, you should not choose a CAP course. Similarly, if you plan to concentrate in engineering, do not enroll in a non-engineering CAP course; all students interested in studying engineering will be matched with an advisor in engineering. If you think you might concentrate in math, physics, or chemistry, those departments encourage you to select a CAP course in one of those disciplines.Chem 100-web, June 15-August 15 Chem100-web is a free online tutorial that helps incoming students review general chemistry and practice for the fall chemistry placement exam.  The placement exam is required for any student wishing to take chemistry at Brown, unless you have the appropriate AP score (see Chemistry Department website) or plan to take Chem 0100, a semester-long class offered in the fall semester, followed by Chem 0330 in the spring.  The tutorial is cost-free and is appropriate for students of all backgrounds; you can register for the course any time between June 15 and August 15, using your Brown username and password.  Health history forms July 1 is the deadline for submitting your health history documents.  Don't hesitate to get in touch with us, at Advising@brown.edu or 401-863-9800, if you have any questions.
