Personal Librarian, Women in Science & Engineering (WiSE)
July 20th, 2014
Dear First-Years,This week's email introduces you to two wonderful opportunities for entering students: a new program that matches every first-year with a "Personal Librarian," and a cornerstone Brown mentoring resource, Women in Science & Engineering. There are also reminders about key August deadlines.Personal Librarian If you have questions about finding a good study space, getting started with a research paper, or how to log in to our several hundred data bases or over 90,000 electronic journals, there's good news for you this Fall. In September, we'll be assigning you a Personal Librarian, your very own contact in the library. Your Personal Librarian is someone you can call, email or visit with any question or problem; he or she will help you find answers, and will also send you periodic updates about new resources and services in the library. Watch for the letter introducing her/him in your Orientation packet.Women in Science & Engineering (WiSE)WiSE welcomes you to Brown! If you are a female student planning on concentrating in a STEM field, please consider applying for a WiSE mentor. WiSE (Women in Science & Engineering) offers an intimate one-on-one mentoring experience for incoming students to provide women in the sciences the information and resources needed to effectively navigate the many STEM fields available at Brown University. Please join us for dinner dates with professors as well as social events to become entrenched in the science community at Brown. AUGUST DEADLINESAugust 1
