Impact Providence Summer Internship Program

Impact Providence Summer Internship Program will provide a $3,000 stipend for undergraduate students to pursue 8-10 week internships with organizations based in the greater Providence area.  A joint project of the Swearer Center and CareerLAB, this program has been designed to place qualified students in summer internships that align with already existing or emerging community priorities and community programs of the Swearer Center and Brown University.

PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS

  • Students and supervisors will develop a work plan for the summer prior to the start of the internship
  • Each project will have a deliverable - i.e., website, curriculum, project evaluation, training manual at the conclusion of summer
  • Participants are required to attend an opening reception/orientation, group meetings during the summer and a closing event highlighting presentations
  • A written reflective statement (to be signed by supervisor) is required for submission by September 1, 2013.

ELIGIBIBLE CANDIDATES

You may apply if you meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • You are an active Brown undergraduate student (students graduating in May 2013 are not eligible), returning to study at Brown in the fall term
  • You must be able to work for a minimum of 240 hours of supervised work (equivalent of 8 weeks/30 hours/week)
  • Internship is for the summer only, to completed by August 31, 2013
  • Student work is supervised by a professional in the organization who agrees to program criteria
  • Students are not eligible for a Brown LINK award or funding from Swearer Center or Watson Institute Fellowship, UTRA, etc. in the same year of participating in Impact Providence
  • Prepare resume and personal statement

HOW TO APPLY

  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to bring their resume and personal statement to CareerLAB for review before submitting via UFunds.
  • Submit application: Click the link; select "Undergraduate Student"; log-in with your Brown ID; click the plus ("+") sign below Impact Providence Summer Internship Program; follow instructions to preview, edit, and submit your application.
  • Application deadline - March 7, 2013 at 5pm EST
  • Student selection - March 21, 2013
  • Award notification - completed before spring break

Following award notifications, students will develop a statement of goals and work plan in conjunction with their supervising organization during the month of April.
