Peter Gilchrist is the Program Associate for the College Advising Corps at Brown University, which seeks to increase the number of high school students from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds that apply to, enroll in, and graduate from college. The Corps trains AmeriCorps members, who are recent college graduates, to serve as college advisers in partner high schools, building the capacity of school guidance departments to provide information and advising for the college process. In addition, Peter oversees the Access Scholar program, an AmeriCorps program for Brown University students that supports the work of the full-time college advisers in the College Advising Corps; he also advises the Swearer Center's high school Community Programs.
Peter attended Wesleyan University, graduating in 2010 with a B.A. in Letters -an interdisciplinary study of European literature, history, and philosophy. During his time at Wesleyan, he served as a residential adviser, and participated in education outreach programs with the Connecticut Juvenile Training School and local elementary and middle schools. After graduating from Wesleyan, Peter joined Teach for America, and taught sixth-grade science at the Segue Institute for Learning, a public charter school in Central Falls, RI. Peter joined the Swearer Center in 2011.
