Computer Engineering Overview
The School of Engineering has been working closely with Brown's Computer Science department in its effort to develop the curriculum for Computer Engineering. The Computer Science department is also one of the best in the country. Each student in the program will take advantage of this department to develop a variety of software skills. The Computer Engineering curriculum is thus an integration of informational science education and the existing programs in physical sciences and mathematics.
The Laboratory for Engineering Man/Machine System (LEMS) is a 3200 square foot facility used by graduate and undergraduate students. Computer facilities include:
- 30 Sun and SGI workstations
- PC clusters
- Image acquisition devices
- Visualization goggles
- Tracker and 3D mouse
- Special platform for microphone arrays
- Parallel processing and advanced architecture
- Industrial coordinate measuring machine
While enrolled in computer science classes, computer engineering concentrators also have access to the facilities of the Department of Computer Science.
