The New English Concentration

Our new English concentration provides a shared sense of  historical developments and leading writers of literatures in English.  All concentrators will take three gateway courses corresponding to broad historical periods, along with one course representing each period and a course in literary theory.  Our literatures Honors Program calls for the writing of a thesis in the Honors Seminar.

In the new track of the Nonfiction Writing Program, students take a designated set of four courses within the concentration. We also offer the Honors Seminar in Nonfiction Writing.

We remain committed to the understanding of literatures in English from a transnational perspective—an approach we embraced over a decade ago and in advance of a broad movement in the field.

NEW SENIOR SEMINARS

Offered for the first time in 2011-12, these seminars offer a capstone experience to English concentrators.  The seminar for 2013-14 is: ENGL 1950E, “From Photography to Film."
