Study Abroad

Brown students are strongly encouraged to improve their proficiency in modern foreign languages through study in the countries where they are spoken. The Office of International Programs offers study abroad opportunities in a variety of academic settings throughout the world. Each year, well over 500 students study outside the borders of the United States.

Besides languages available for study on campus, Brown students have also received credit for the following languages (among others) while on study abroad: Afrikaans, Armenian, Aymara, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, Fante, Finnish, Georgian, Hungarian, Indonesian, Irish, Kiryarwanda, Luganda, Malayam, Maori, Nepali, Quetchua, Samoan, Setswana, Sinhala, Tagalog, Tamil, Thai, Tibetan, Turkish, Twi, Vietnamese, Wolof, Xhosa, and Zulu.
