On April 15-16, 2014, the Department of Emergency Medicine hosted Dr. David Sklar as part of the department's visiting professorship series. Dr. Sklar is Professor Emeritus in Emergency Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He has served in numerous leadership roles there including Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine as well as Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education.
Dr. Sklar presented two Grand Rounds lectures, "Addressing the Health Reform Imperative: What can Academic Medical Centers Do?" as well as "Humanities and Creative Writing." In addition to his Grand Rounds talks, he led a faculty development workshop and met individually with faculty members to provide mentorship and feedback on their academic work. Dr. Sklar was also the guest of honor at a dinner sponsored by the Department of Emergency Medicine that featured a moderated discussion on a broad range of topics from academic medicine to healthcare policy.
