Brown Family Medicine Faculty Recognized at Alpert Medical School Graduation

The Alpert Medical School of Brown University Class of 2015 honored Drs. Jordan White and Paul George at this year's commencement. Dr. White received a Profiles in Competence Award, while Dr. George received one of four faculty awards as well as the Senior Citation, the most prestigious faculty award, for the third year in a row. The department of Family Medicine was the only department to have multiple faculty members elected to be marshals and receive awards!

Brown Transgender Medicine Conference

Brown Family Medicine held a Transgender Medicine Conference at the Alpert Medical School on Saturday, January 10.  This one-day conference provided education on important concepts related to caring for transgender patients, increasing provider knowledge and the community's access to care.  Experts from the region presented on best practices and lessons on their own work.

Family Medicine's own Dr. Joanna Brown was a recent contributor to a segment of NPR's program This I Believe - RI.  Listen to Dr. Brown's commentary on the negative effects that early exposure to violence can appoint to adolescent development and her challenge to toymakers to manufacture toys that enrich and encourage creativity.

Memorial Hospital Staff Help Build Community Garden

Physicians from the Brown Department of Family Medicine at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island recently rolled up their sleeves and broke out the shovels to help build a community garden at the Elizabeth Baldwin Elementary School located in Pawtucket. The school, which has over 750 students grades K-5, has had a long history of finding innovative ways to fight childhood obesity.
