Research Description

Dr. Papandonatos original research interests lay in the area of
Bayesian predictive inference. Through his collaborations with
researchers in the area of behavioral medicine, Dr. Papandonatos
has more recently developed interests in item response theory
models for analyzing nicotine dependence phenotypes, non-linear
mixed models for analyzing cortisol response to stress structural
equation models for analyzing twin data, and in the conduct of
linkage and association studies for examining the genetic
determinants of smoking initiation and transition to dependence,
and their interaction with environmental factors in a 3-generation
sample in New England. Additionally, he has analyzed data from
pharmacogenomic studies of bupropion treatment aimed at promoting
long-term smoking abstinence and reducing risk of subsequent
relapse.

More recently, Dr. Papandonatos has conducted genome wide analyses
of SNP markers of obesity-related phenotypes in the Look Ahead trial,
a longitudinal trial seeking to identify determinants of weight loss and weight regain.
