Dr. Aadia Rana's primary research area is addressing disparities in access and adherence to medical treatment among HIV-infected individuals, with a focus on minority women. This work incorporates health services research, behavioral sciences, social sciences, and clinical medicine. Dr. Rana is also the site investigator on clinical trials investigating novel agents for the treatment of HIV and Hepatitis C at The Miriam Hospital Infectious Diseases Clinical Trials Unit.
BiographyDr. Aadia Rana is an internal medicine and infectious diseases physician at The Miriam Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital, and is Assistant Professor of Medicine at Brown University. Dr. Rana obtained her medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed her residency in internal medicine/international health at Case Western Reserve University. She subsequently came to Brown University where she completed a combined clinical and research fellowship in infectious diseases and HIV.
Research DescriptionDr. Rana's primary research focus is evaluating and improving adherence to medical care and treatment among HIV-infected patients, a vital issue which impacts individual health as well as public health. She has several ongoing projects evaluating factors that impact adherence to HIV care and treatment among: patients at the Miriam Hospital Immunology clinic, postpartum HIV-infected women in Mississippi, and postpartum HIV-infected women in Ghana.
Dr. Rana is also sub-investigator of the The Miriam Hospital AIDS Clinical Trial Clinical Research Site, a subunit of the Harvard AIDS Clinic Trials Unit of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG). She is also the local principal investigator of clinical trials investigating novel treatments for HIV and Hepatitis C at the Miriam Hospital Infectious Diseases Clinical Trials Unit.
