Program Description
The 1st Annual Rhode Island Hospital and Alpert Medical School Wound Care Symposium presented by a multidisciplinary center team and faculty supplemented by perspectives from nationally recognized leaders in wound care: Paul Y. Liu, MD, Gary W. Gibbons, MD, FACS, Elof Errikkson, MD, PhD, Lisa J. Gould, MD, PhD, FACS, and Dennis P. Orgill, MD, PhD. This symposium will provide attendees who study and treat wounds across all practice settings with state-of-the-art review of clinical problems and research information.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Employ an interdisciplinary approach to wound prevention, treatment, and limb salvage.
  2. Describe the comprehensive management of patients with venous, arterial, and diabetic wounds.
  3. Provide optimal healthcare delivery through improved understanding and the use of novel wound care technologies that allows for better outcomes.
  4. Describe various factors that inhibit wound healing including medical co-morbidities, commonly used drugs anddevices, and other challenges.
  5. Assess existing evidence-based criteria for efficacy of commonly used wound care treatments including negative pressure wound therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy

Target Audience
The conference is designed for the interdisciplinary team of Physicians, Podiatrists, Nurses, Researchers involved inwound healing or wound care issues..

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of theAccreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)through the joint providership of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center. The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation
Physicians: The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participationin the activity.

Nurses: This activity has been submitted to Northeast Multi-State Division (NE-MSD) for approval to award contact hours. Northeast Multistate Division (NE-MSD) is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
