Procedures and timetables for completion of the AMCAS application by PLME Class of 2015, PLME students on leave, and EIP seniors who expect to matriculate into the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in August 2015

  • Before you start the application, print a copy of your "internal academic record" from the Banner website at You will need this document to complete the "Coursework" section of the AMCAS application.
  • The Registrar will not release your official Brown transcript if there is an outstanding balance on your account. Please resolve all account problems before submitting the request for transcript form. If you are planning to study abroad or travel during the spring semester of your senior year and email access is unknown, please designate a family member to receive communications from Brown Med Admissions or the PLME Office. Please provide the name and email address of your proxy (e.g., parent) before leaving the United States.

Useful AMCAS Web Sites

I. June through September 15, 2014
Begin the AMCAS application and receive an AAMC ID.

Visit the AMCAS page at and click on "AMCAS 2015 Instruction Book" and also set a link to "Frequently Asked Questions."

When you are ready to obtain an AAMC ID, open the web page . Click on the link "2015 AMCAS Sign In" and click on "Register here" and you will be directed to establish a user name and password.

Complete the "Identifying Information" section in order to receive an AAMC ID. In the "Identifying Information" section, please list your Brown Banner ID number under "Other." EIP students should list the student ID number that appears on your school's official transcripts.

If you are an international student (i.e., you are neither a U.S. citizen nor a permanent resident of the United States) and you do not have a social security number (SSN) or a social insurance number (SIN), you will be prompted to call the AMCAS Help Line when you begin the registration process. They will provide you with your AAMC ID, and then you can proceed with the completion of your application.

Email your AAMC ID to Filomena Zani at the Alpert Medical School Office of Admissions ( If you do not provide your AAMC ID to Filomena by September 15, you will be unable to complete Section #7 in October as a Brown/PLME and you could be charged the full AMCAS fee of $160!


II. June through November 15, 2014

Work on all Sections EXCEPT  for section 7 "Medical Schools" In Section "Schools Attended" please take note of these requirements:

You must list all schools at which you have taken summer courses or additional courses (for credit and not-for-credit). You will need to print "Transcript Request Forms" for each school. This form must be signed and mailed to the Registrar at each school because it accompanies your transcript to AAMC.

At some schools, it is possible to order a transcript online. Print out the AMCAS letter in order to get the correct mailing address information to provide to the Registrar. If possible, provide your AMCAS number and request a reference to it be included with the transcript.

NOTE: Brown courses should appear on your application with four (4) semester hours per course.

How to Enter Study Abroad Coursework.

  • AMCAS requires an official transcript from Brown. Print the AMCAS Transcript Request Form; sign it, and submit to Brown University Registrar. In order that you will not be charged for the Brown transcript, you must send a copy of a Transcript Fee Waiver Letter along with the AMCAS request form.

  • Please list all relevant activities in the "Post-Secondary Experiences" section. You should provide a complete summary of your volunteer work, employment, honors, teaching, professional presentations, and other experiences. The AMCAS application serves as a survey instrument for the AAMC. The information that you report will become data published in AAMC publications, such as the Medical School Admissions Requirements.

Personal Statements. The Personal Comments essay serves as an updated description of your personal motivation for medicine.

Activities. Be sure to list all activities you have taken part in during your time at Brown including interest groups, research, etc.

Letters of Evaluation are not required for PLME students.

III. October 1 - November 15, 2014

Complete Section #7: Medical Schools after October 1, 2014

 If you have previously provided your AAMC ID to Filomena Zani, you can now complete Section #7 "Medical Schools." If you have not provided your AAMC ID to Filomena, you will not be able to check the correct "Program Type" in this section.

  • Choose "Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University" from the menu of schools;

  • Select "NO" to the question, "Have you applied to the program in previous years";

  • Choose "Combined Bachelor's/Medical Degree" for Program Type if you are a PLME student;

  • Choose "Early Assurance" for Program Type if you are an EIP student.

  • As of fall 2014, PLME students on campus can still request a transcript in person at the Registrar's Office in the J. Walter Wilson Building, corner of Waterman and Brown Streets. Please allow ten business days for processing. In order that you will not be charged for the Brown transcript, you must deliver/mail a copy of a Brown Transcript Fee Waiver Request Letter along with the AMCAS Transcript Request Form to the Brown Registrar.  Alternatively, AMCAS will accept an eTranscript from Brown but there is no way to waive the Brown fee for this option. 

  • Submit transcript requests to all relevant undergraduate institutions.

IV. November 15, 2014

  • AMCAS application should be submitted.

  • Please audit your application and print a copy of it for your records before certifying and submitting it.

V. December 15, 2014

  • Deadline for AAMC to receive all required application materials including transcripts.

  • It is important for students to verify that AMCAS has received the application, official transcripts and documentation.
