PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] - Two PSTC graduate trainees have been awarded Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants from the National Science Foundation. Weeam Hammoudeh and Heather Randell, both Sociology doctoral candidates, received grants for their dissertations.
Hammoudeh’s dissertation is titled, “(Re)Producing the Citizenry: Reproduction, Social Fragmentation, and State-Building.” Randell’s dissertation is titled, “Hydropower and the Dynamics of Displacement: Forced Migration and Agricultural Livelihoods in the Brazilian Amazon.”
PSTC trainee and Sociology doctoral candidate Patrick Mayne was awarded the Sociology department’s Alden Speare Jr. Award for superior achievement for a Master of Arts thesis. Mayne’s thesis is titled, “Neighborhood change, social capital, and health: the case of public housing demolitions in Chicago.”
