Faculty Projects

STS Faculty are involved in a variety of research projects:

  • Making Choices: Ethical Awareness in International Collaborations: A Contextual Approach
Making Choices is a collaborative effort between faculty and students at Zhejiang University in China, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and Brown University. The central premise of the project is to train international researchers to recognize the cultural “situatedness” of making ethical choices, and the global and cross-cultural contexts for ethical decision-making.  It examines ethics across a very broad range of situations, using the perspectives of social science, humanities and the sciences. The course and its materials were created with the support of a National Science Foundation grant.

  • BIARI 2013: Water, Energy, and Digital Information in the Global South
faculty development initiative that brings promising young faculty from more
than 80 countries together with leading scholars in their fields for two-week
intensive residential institutes every summer. "Connections and Flows," one of
four 2013 Institutes, explored new ways of thinking about the social and
engineering challenges that arise around water and energy in the Global South.
