Brown named 2011 Beckman Scholar Program Site

Brown has landed its first Beckman Scholars Program award, a highly competitive three-year grant for undergraduate research. The award, from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, will allow six top-ranking undergraduates to do research under the mentorship of biology and chemistry faculty at Brown and at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Mass.The program’s generous financial support($19,300 for two summers and one academic year) helps students develop the skills and knowledge they needto become leaders in their scientific and professional pursuits.

The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation is an independent, non-profit foundation that promotes research in chemistry and the life sciences. The program works to foster the invention of methods, instruments, and materials that will open up new avenues of research in science.
