Campus Tours and Information Sessions

We invite all prospective students to visit the sights, sounds and history of Brown University through our information session and campus tour programs. Tours and information sessions are intended to complement one another, and therefore contain different information for prospective students and their families.  To maximize your visit, we encourage visitors to attend both, if possible. All information sessions and campus tours begin at the Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center located at 75 Waterman Street, Providence, Rhode Island.  Groups are welcome, but we do not offer special program tours.  Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before the start of a session or tour.

Information Sessions are conducted by undergraduate students and a member of the Admission team and last approximately 40 minutes. This session emphasizes academics (e.g. the Open Curriculum).   There is no registration required for information sessions.

Campus tours last approximately one hour and are conducted by current undergraduate students who provide an overview of student life (e.g. campus activities, residential life, and Brown history). Due to the lack of information sessions on Saturdays, tours given on Saturdays will incorporate some of the material typically reserved for information sessions.  Registration is not required but recommended. To register for a campus tour click here.

Physical Science tours are designed to give prospective students and their families a glimpse of what it is like to study Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Math, Applied Math and Geology at Brown.  The tour visits classrooms and lab spaces and typically lasts about 90 minutes.   The Physical Science tour does not cover life sciences such as biology or neuroscience.  Every science tour covers the same information about the various physical science departments at Brown.  That said, if you are interested in studying chemistry at Brown the best day to schedule a science tour is Friday when the tour route is slightly different.  Registration is required. To register for a physical science tour click here.

Engineering tours offered by The School of Engineering are specifically for those students whose main area of academic interest is engineering.  These tours are lead by current engineering students and are available most Mondays-Thursdays at 3:00 p.m. during the academic year.  Registration is required.  To register please email enginundergrad@brown.edu  and include your name, year of graduation, school name/city, and area of interest within engineering.

Parking:  Visitors may find parking on the streets in and around campus, or in the visitors parking lot on Brook Street behind Minden Hall at the intersection of Brook Street and Waterman Street.  Parking near Brown is extremely limited, we encourage you to allow extra time to find commercial lots and garages in the area should the visitor lot be full.  If you decide to park at the meters you must pay between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. Rates are $.25 for 12 minutes (or$1.25 per hour). Most meters allow you to park for a maximum of 2 hours, so you must plan accordingly. You cannot continue to feed the meter once your 2 hour limit expires.

A Few Things to Remember:

  • We do not offer class visits during the summer months. Check back in August for the fall class visit schedule.
  • For security and safety reasons, campus tours do not enter student dormitories.  Please visit the virtual tour for 360 degree images of student accomodations
  • You should expect large crowds and limited seating during high school vacation times, especially during the months of February and April.
  • We cannot accommodate groups during the month of April.

If you have questions or need assistance in planning your visit, please email us.
