Below is only a partial listing of this year's Family Weekend events. Upon arrival, visiting families will receive a full listing of the weekend's activities with over 100 open houses, lectures, performances, exhibits and more. You can also download that full listing here.

Pick up your registration packet, which will include the final program for the weekend, a comprehensive and updated schedule of events with locations, and detailed descriptions of all planned activities.

4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Faculty Advising Fellows Welcome
>Sayles Auditorium, The College Green
A place to gather, enjoy light refreshments, and meet other families. Join the Faculty Advising Fellows, Randall advisors, and deans for a Family Weekend welcome event. Faculty Advising Fellows are experienced academic advisors who are interested in students’ lives both in and outside the classroom. The Fellows host meals on campus that bring faculty and students together for lively discussion. Randall advisors help second-year students navigate all aspects of the sophomore year. Note: this event is only open to families registered for Family Weekend.

5:30 pm – 6:30 pm 
President’s Welcome

>Salomon Center for Teaching, DeCiccio Family Auditorium, The College Green
President Christina H. Paxson will welcome families and guests to campus to kick off Family Weekend and share remarks about the University.

9 pm
$ Brown University Jazz Band concert
> Grant Recital Hall, Corner of Hope Street and Young Orchard Avenue
Matthew McGarrell, director. $10 per person. Tickets will be available beginning Monday, October 15 in Orwig 101.  A limited amount of tickets may still be available at the door.

Continental Breakfast

A light breakfast is available preceding morning events.  Note: this event is only open to families registered for Family Weekend.

8:15 am – 9:15 am 
Straight from the Source

>Metcalf Hall, Friedman Auditorium
Grab a cup of coffee, and meet key administrators responsible for all aspects of the undergraduate experience at Brown. Dean of the College Katherine Bergeron and Vice President for Campus Life Margaret Klawunn will discuss initiatives in academic and campus life. This event is a great opportunity to ask questions about advising, Brown's new plan for residential life, learning in and outside the classroom, and more. Light refreshments will be served.

9:30 am – 10:30 am 
Brown Faculty Forums – Session 1

>Various Locations
Brown’s faculty share their expertise regarding topics of widespread interest to create an ongoing educational link with the University.  This segment of Family Weekend allows families to share students’ classroom experiences through lectures by Brown faculty, all of whom regularly teach undergraduate courses and/or interact with students in their research labs.  Note: this event is only open to families registered for Family Weekend.

10:00 am – 4:00 pm 
Shuttles to the Brown Stadium

Shuttle buses will run continuously to the Brown Stadium from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  The shuttle can be picked up at Soldier’s Arch, Faunce Arch, and the Power Street Garage.

11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Varsity Football vs. Cornell
>Brown Stadium
Tickets are available at the Brown Stadium box office for $15 ($5 for children under 12).  Your student is admitted free with his/her Brown ID.  There is a concession stand inside the stadium.  Shuttles will be running to and from campus from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.  Note: Tickets for the football game are included for each individual registered for Family Weekend or they can be purchased at the door of the game.

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm 
Planning with your Sophomore

>Salomon Center for Teaching, DeCiccio Family Auditorium, The College Green
Sophomores and their families will have an opportunity to explore critical topics such as concentration, career interest, study abroad programs, and the best use of Brown’s open curriculum.

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm 
Understanding Brown’s Commencement

>Salomon Center for Teaching, Room 001, The College Green
Members of Brown’s Commencement staff will be on hand to answer questions about this important weekend.  This session is geared toward families of seniors, but it is open to all.

4:00 pm – 5:00 pm 
Family Weekend Keynote Address

The 2012 Family Weekend Keynote Address will be deliverd by Steven Rattner '74, Chairman of Willett Advisors LLC; Contributing Writer for the Op-Ed page of The New York Times; author of a monthly column for the Financial Times, and; the Economic Analyst for MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

Paul Phillips, conductor. Program to include works by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Overture to The Tragedy of Coriolanus, op. 135 (1947); Nico Muhly, Fits & Bursts (2002) RI premiere, and; Gustav Holst, The Planets, featuring the Ursa Minors. Tickets will be available in Orwig 101 beginning Monday, October 15 during business hours and at the door one hour before the performance.  Benefit concert for the Orchestra Tour to Ireland in 2013. $10 General Admission, $5 seniors (65 and older) and students (18 or younger) and $3 Brown/RISD ID.  This concert is given in memory of Martin Fischer, Brown Orchestra Conductor from 1947-1981.
