Peer Career Advisors (PCAs)

What is it?

Peer Advisor Open Hours are the place for quick questions and resume or cover letter help.  It is suggested that students first meet with a PCA prior to scheduling an appointment with a counselor.

How long does it last? About 10-15 minutes
What will we discuss?
  • First looks at resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn or other online profiles
  • Exploring Brown and CareerLAB's resources such as BrownConnect, the Brown Job Board, and tip sheets
  • Practicing interview skills through "mini-mocks"
  • Connecting with alumni through BrownConnect and LinkedIn 
How do I get started?

Visit Peer Advisor Open Hours!  Open hours are held at CareerLAB from 1:30-3:30pm, Monday - Friday, with extended hours on Wednesday until 5:30pm.  

Our building is at 167 Angell Street, located next to Paragon and across the street from the Brown Office Building.

 

Career Counselors

What is it?

Scheduled appointments with Career Counselors for longer discussion.

How long does it last? 30 minutes
What will we discuss?
  • Feeling of confusion or uncertainty of what direction to take
  • Career assessment or self-assessment: Skills, Values, Interest; Personality; Matching personalities with work
  • Connections between concentrations and careers
  • Individualized career plans
  • Full blown mock interviews
  • Help with deciding offers and offer negotiation

*You do not need to come in with questions!  Career Counselors can drive the conversation if you are unsure of where or how to start.  Counselors are here for you throughout your time at Brown as you explore and discover potential pathways.

How do I get started?

Log into the Brown Student Job Board and visit the My Calendar/Appointments tab to schedule an appointment (view a how-to video here). All counselors are available to chat about any industry.
