Karen was a military student herself: she served eight years in the U.S. Navy and began her graduate studies while still on active duty. While in the service, she was awarded a Joint Service Commendation medal for her work as an Arabic translator and was selected as Command Language Professional of the Year and NSA Military Professional of the Quarter. After her honorable discharge as an E-6 in 2011, she continued her studies, eventually earning a master's degree in Arabic from Georgetown University.
Before coming to Brown, Matt served six years in the Navy on submarines, honorably discharged in 2009 as an E-6. He studies political science and also works for the Alumni Association.
Izzy studies physics and history, writing his thesis on soldiers in the American Revolution. Outside of the office, he writes for the Brown Daily Herald and is a member of the Janus Forum.
Johnathan is a biomedical engineer from Atlanta. He is a member of Brown's ROTC program and will commission into the Reserves when he graduates.
