Brown ID Card Information

All Continuing Studies students will receive electronic services when they purchase a class. For the duration of your class, you will receive access to libraries, computer clusters, and online course material. A $10 fee for these services will be assessed at check out each semester as part of the course fee.

If you currently have a Brown ID, please enter your Banner ID on the Student Information page when you purchase a class. If your ID does not have a Banner ID, then enter your Brown ID number.

The card now gives you more services than before and is required for all Continuing Studies students. The ten dollar fee each semester now gives you access to the following services:

  • Libraries, including borrowing privileges and e-journals
  • Computer clusters on campus and printing
  • EZ wireless
  • MyCourses (instructors post electronic material on a course-specific website)
  • Brown email address. We ask that you do not use this email address as your primary contact because it will only be good for the semester in which you are registered to take a Continuing Studies class. However, the address will be needed for you to access the above services.

Only the person to whom it is issued may use the Brown ID Card. If your card is lost or stolen, please contact the Card Office immediately (401) 863-2273 during business hours, or the Brown Department of Public Safety (401) 863-3322 during non-business hours. To Obtain your Brown ID Card

Please note, Brown ID cards will not be processed until February 22, 2012.

  1. If you already have a Brown ID, skip this section and go to the “Activate Your ID” section below.

  2. Go to the Brown Card Office during business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm) to have your photo taken and ID made. Please call first to verify that you are in the system (401.863.2273).

    3. The Card Office is on the fifth floor of the J. Walter Wilson Building, 69 Brown Street (corner of Brown and Waterman Streets).

  3. If you cannot visit the Card Office during business hours, please mail a passport-size photo with your name and Continuing Studies written on the back.

    4. In a brief note, please indicate which Continuing Studies class(es) you have signed up for and the address where your ID should be sent.

To Activate Your Brown ID Card (For New ID holders and for those who already have a Brown ID)

  1. Go to http://activate.brown.edu

  2. Select "Activate Your Account"

  3. Fill in the required information and follow the directions.

  4. If you have any difficulty, contact the Computing Accounts & Passwords Office at 401.863.4357,
    ext.3. Their office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm.

  5. Please note: You will be able to activate your card starting on 2/22/2012.
