Angela Sherwin, Program Director of Brown University's Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership, has been awarded the prestigious 40 Under Forty Award. Providence Business News celebrated the honoree's at an award ceremony on July 24, 2014.

PBN selected the winners based on career success and community involvement. Each young professional has shown commitment to making a difference on a local, national or international scale.

On June 10, 2014, Dr. Alan Kurose, President and CEO of Coastal Medical, and Meryl Moss, COO of Coastal Medical and student in the Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership Class of 2015, shared Coastal Medical's strategies and success, lessons learned, and the challenges of transforming healthcare on the front line.  They discussed the journey that started in 1995 with the merger of 7 medical practices and continues today as Coastal Medical becomes an Accountable Care Organization.

Panel Discussion | Legislative Insight to Reform

On January 24, 2014, Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership Program Director Angela Sherwin moderated a panel discussion at the Healthcare Financial Management Association – Rhode Island Chapter’s 2014 Conference, Avoid Fumbles and Red Flags: Your Revenue Cycle Game Plan for 2014.

The panel discussion, Legislative Insight to Reform, included legislative leaders responsible for implementing major changes brought to Rhode Island and Massachusetts through the ACA. The panel discussed state plans for Medicaid Expansion, update attendees on the MA Health Connector and RI HealthSource, and speak to the future of ACO’s, PCMH’s, and Population Health.

As healthcare reform gains momentum, it is important for Emergency Physicians to better understand the effects of the Affordable Care Act and the ramifications of healthcare reform on Emergency Medicine.

The panel discussion also involved local healthcare reform leaders Angela Sherwin, program director of Brown University’s Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership program, and Meryl Moss, Chief Operating Officer of Coastal Medical Group of Rhode Island and current Brown Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership Class of 2015 student.

October 1st marked the deadline for healthcare exchange implementation and the beginning of the open enrollment period. What exactly is an exchange and what does it mean for the American public and its businesses? What are the long-term implications of this ACA provision? Will it be successful in the long run?

Based on her experience, Angela will provide an analysis of the first few weeks and what they indicate about the long-term implications of this program when executed on a large scale. The program director of Brown University's Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership program, Angela can provide her insights from an insider perspective and apply it to healthcare leaders trying to navigate this new landscape.
