The aim of this course is for students to significantly improve their communications skills in Spanish, particularly their oral expression and listening comprehension, in order that their immersion in Spanish culture during their time in Segovia is successful and rewarding. Daily classes are taught completely in Spanish and focus on proficiency in everyday speech to facilitate interaction with the local communities.
Exercises in grammar, syntax, and vocabulary will be augmented by studies in local dialects and the culture, especially in connection with planned trips to Andalucía and Salamanca. We will also discuss a few aspects of local culture in Segovia, including the poetry of renowned author Antonio Machado and artist Esteban Vicente, who lived in exile in the US and has now an important museum in Segovia.
Students will leave the class with expanded skills in spoken and written Spanish and a greater understanding of the richness of Spanish culture.
This course is only open to students enrolled in Pre-College Global Programs.
