Program Overview

This 4-week program combines intensive English language study with liberal arts courses. This combined approach delivers language learning in the context of the liberal arts curriculum.  In this program, students have an authentic college experience while improving their English language skills. IEP offers a rigorous and challenging curriculum. Students will find themselves in classrooms with students from around the world and will exchange ideas from their cultural perspectives.

Mornings are dedicated to intensive English language study conducted in groups with other non-native English speakers. Every IEP student will enroll in Intensive English Language in the Globalized World for the morning class. Course time is divided into two areas:

  • Academic writing
  • Speaking & pronunciation

In the afternoons, IEP students join other Summer@Brown pre-college students in courses focused on a particular academic topic. During the 4-week program, IEP students choose two different 2-week afternoon courses (see Program Details Page for more information).  Students should expect 1-3 hours of homework each day.
