This program is for high-achieving, university-bound students for whom English is not their native language.
TOEFL Recommended Score
Students are not required to take the TOEFL exam, but a minimum score of 80 is recommended

Brown University's Pre-College Intensive English Program (IEP) combines intensive English language study with challenging liberal arts courses.
In this three-week program, students from around the world experience life on an American "Ivy League" college campus, while improving their English language skills. This combined approach delivers language learning in the context of Brown's liberal arts curriculum. Students should expect 1-3 hours of homework each day.
Program Learning Objectives
- Students will develop higher-level language skills.
- Students will fine-tune their English grammar.
- Students will focus on academic writing.
- Students will improve their speaking and pronunciation.
- Students will engage in discussions which explore cultural and social similarities and differences.
Coursework
Students may apply to one or both sessions.
First Session: June 24 – July 12, 2013
In the morning students will enroll in one course:
Read, Think, Write, Approaching the College Essay (CRN 10577)
In the afternoon students will enroll in one of the following courses:
TOEFL (CRN 10502)
Writing, Editing, Reviewing and Presenting the Language of Science (CRN 10573)
Making the Written Word (CRN 10579)
Second Session: July 15 – August 2, 2013
In the morning students will enroll in one of the following courses:
Putting Your Ideas Into Words (CRN 10572)
Taking Sides - The Art of Public Speaking and Debate (CRN 10578)
In the afternoon students will enroll in one of the following courses:
TOEFL (CRN 10040)
English on Stage: Building Language Skills Through Performance (CRN 10571)
Conflict Resolution, Negotiation and Resolution (CRN 10584)
