Leadership and Conflict Resolution: Northern Ireland and Beyond
Residential and Student Life
Students will study and reside at Corrymeela Centre and Queen's University. Both sites provide a perfect base for discovering Northern Ireland.
The Corrymeela Centre for peace and reconciliation stands on the stunningly beautiful Northern Ireland coast, amid the glens of Antrim. Corrymeela was founded in 1965 as a safe haven for dialogue between members of Northern Ireland's divided Protestant and Catholic communities. At Corrymeela, people of all backgrounds come together and live out what it means to embrace difference and heal divisions. Students will learn about Corrymeela’s approach to conflict transformation and will have the opportunity to talk with Corrymeela staff, volunteers, and community members during their day trip to the center.
At Corrymeela, students will reside at The Davey Village, named after the founder of Corrymeela Ray Davey. It is a fully self-contained residential building with kitchen and dining facilities, lounges, latest audio/visual equipment, wi-fi access, and en suite bedrooms.
Queen’s University was founded in 1845 and became a university in 1908. Today, it is an international centre of research and education rooted at the heart of Northern Ireland. Queen’s historic campus is located in the suburbs of South Belfast. While at Queen’s College, students reside at The Elms Village. Set in a leafy residential area, this modern, village-style residence is located approximately one mile from the University campus and 20 minute walk to Belfast city centre. Rooms are in low-rise accommodation blocks of 3 floors and a common room with kitchen and television is available on each floor. En-suite guest rooms feature simple, modern decor; all include Internet connections, desks, and private bathrooms with showers. Also located in the village are laundry, ATM, convenience store, restaurant and student lounge.
Students are required to be in their rooms from 11p.m. until 7:00a.m. Students may neither possess nor consume alcohol while enrolled in this program. Violation of this policy will result in dismissal from the program. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at the student residence dining hall.
