Establishment of a Leadership Course at Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola

We are proposing the establishment o fan elective course entitled Leadership. This course will be offered to the students at the High School Level. The Objective is to develop Leaders at Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola as early as possible. This course will develop and foster the necessary characteristics and skills that will help them achieve our school’s objective: to help others.
There are two steps in the establishment of this course. First, we will organize the First Leadership Conference of Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola. The second step would be the implementation of an elective Leadership course. There follows in detail the two steps.
II. First Leadership Conference
- The First Leadership Conference objectives are:
- Develop interest in the elective course to be offered
- To introduce the students to the basic concepts of leadership
- Fund raising for scholarships
- To develop future leaders at Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola
It will be a one-day conference with the following characteristics:
- To be held on a Saturday
- To be held at a hotel or conference center outside of school
- Once a year during the first semester of school
- All of the school’s students will be invited
- Free of charge
- Starting in the fall of 2010
The lecturers will be mostly graduates of Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola and will not charge for their services.
The topics to be covered are the following:
- Definition of Leadership
- Conflict Resolution
- Stress Management
- Listening Skills
These topics will be presented through workshops and conferences.
This annual conference besides generating an interest in the Leadership Course will also be a fund raising vehicle for the Scholarship Program at Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola. This will be achieved by obtaining sponsorships for each topic to be developed at the conference, as follows:
- Sponsorship of $3,000 for each of the seven topics, for a total of $21,000.
- Sponsorship of the venue
- General Sponsorship of the event (i.e. Two for $5,000 each)
- Total to be raised $31,000
- Sponsorship to cover Coffee Breaks and Lunch.
We will establish an organizing committee composed of 12 students, 7 of which will be representing a different grade, from 7th grade to 12th grade, and 5 at large members. Such committee will have the following responsibilities:
- Fund raising
- Venue selection
- Topics and lecturers selection
- Event marketing
After such First Leadership Conference there will be a lot of student interest in the Leadership Topic. This is the reason why we recommend that the elective course be offered during the year 2011-2012.
III. Establishment of the Leadership Course
We recommend that the Leadership Course start on the fall of 2011. We include as attachment a document entitled “A High School Leadership Class Curriculum”. This document will serve as a guide of the analysis of the topics to be covered in the course. We also recommend that there be an analysis of different leadership courses offered at various high schools in the United States.
The committee that organizes the First Leadership Course will also help the school’s administration in the curriculum development.
The final Leadership Course student project should be the development and organization of the next year’s Leadership Conference. This is a way of maintaining interest in the course and providing continuity to the conference.
