IT Strategic Plan

When Michael Pickett became Brown's Vice-President for Computing and Information Services (CIS) & CIO in July 2007, he identified the development of an IT Strategic Plan based on Brown's Plan for Academic Enrichment (PAE) as a priority. His specifications for the plan included three key requirements: 1. It must be a plan for all IT efforts at Brown, not just those of the central IT organization; 2. It must reflect the voice of the Brown community and 3. It must be guided by principles accepted by the University.

Seven working groups were formed to examine key IT issues at Brown. A total of 95 IT professionals, faculty and staff participated in these 7 groups. 57% of working group members came from departments other than Computing and Information Services. These working groups focused on the following core issues:

Through the strategic planning process, over 120 members of the Brown community participated in individual meetings, group meetings or focus groups. More than 70 of these conversations were with Brown faculty. More than 350 undergraduates and 30 graduate students provided input through a survey conducted by the Teaching and Learning Technology working group.
