I'll be around on saturday and sunday the 27 and 28th and would love to work many many hours if the lab is open.
I've included a schematic of Grad MML Emergency Exit Routes (with fire extinguisher locations) in the blue Consultant Time Log Binder, at the Grad MML.
if anyone is having problems with dropped frames in fcp, here is a potential cause: the dock location. apparently if it's near the canvas, it will flip out. thanks to mark domino for the heads-up
Hi. are either of the mmlabs going to be open over thanksgiving break?
Tuesday Nov 22, 1-2pm
Steve Morin will be down in the Grad Center to do Safety Training, and discuss evacuation and emergency plans. While not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged that you attend.
We're looking for a web designer for Wendy Chun's new book. Obviously, HTML and Photoshop know-how is a must, and Flash knowledge is a plus.
Please be ready to show a portfolio of previous web work. Contact me directly for more info.
Please pass the word.
Does anyone know where the keys are for list lab?
The copy that is usually at the art office on the 2nd floor is not there, so I had call campus security to let me in.
If you have the keys, please return them to the art office.
Thank you. -Seth
Anyone know why it is about 100 degrees in the list lab?
I called facilities and they will be sending over a heating tech, but I was wondering if anyone had dealt with this before.
Consultants
Please read this post carefully -- the information below concerns your safety and the safety of those in the MMLab/Classroom during your shift. I have confirmed details of the events and strategies for safety in a meeting today with Risk Management, Service and Response, Facilities, and other members of CIS, and would like to share them with you.
On Friday October 8, there was a carbon monoxide incident in Graduate Center Tower E. Risk Management was on the scene in response to a caller complaining of odors in the building (3:42pm). Tim Riley of Risk Management determined with a CO meter that Carbon Monoxide levels were very high, and activated the fire alarm system to alert and evacuate the Tower E occupants. We immediately evacuated the Grad MML and Classroom, and made sure no one entered the space until the Fire Department gave the OK to reenter the building. We closed the Multimedia Lab facilities for the day.
I verified with the Public Safety sergeant on Saturday October 9, to make sure that it was indeed safe for the Grad MML to reopen on Sunday and Monday.
(The high CO levels were due to exhaust from the boiler room being forced back in by an A/C condensing unit, a problem resulting from poor engineering of the boiler's exhaust scoop. The boiler has been secured and will not be used until the underlying cause is corrected.)
We are actively pursuing ways to better safeguard against another such incident. Facilities is looking into installing Carbon Monoxide detectors in the Boiler Room that will be tied into the building's Fire Alarm system. Stephen Morin of Risk Management will be conducting training on Emergency Procedures -- and you are invited to attend. I will broadcast the date and time when that info is available.
==========================
While there are Brown emergency response procedures in place, I would like to reiterate some important things we covered during MML Orientation.
During your shifts, you are THE PERSON IN CHARGE of the Multimedia Lab and Classroom.
If something is amiss, do NOT hesitate to call for help when you need it, for non-emergency _and_ emergency situations.
The following departments are available during weekdays, weeknights, AND weekends:
Police, Fire, and Medical Emergencies: x34111
Public Safety, x33322
Facilities Management, x37800
Environmental Health and Safety, x33353
Alert Public Safety immediately by calling x4111, or setting off the fire alarm. Make sure someone outside the facility is aware of your urgent situation first. Do not hesitate with evacuation of Multimedia Lab _and_ Classroom users. (For the Grad Center, gather near the base of the Spiral Staircase). Do a head count outside, if possible. Remember, while it is important to tend to others' safety, it is also extremely important to make sure YOU ARE SAFE as well. Do not endanger yourself.
There are multiple exits for both Multimedia Lab facilities. There is a secondary exit in the Multimedia Classroom at both List and Grad Center.
Use the fire extinguisher in order to exit the room only -- not to put out the fire yourself.
Please consult the following websites for more information.

If you have any further questions, please contact me or Ed.
Thank you,

Now that the G5s have been installed at the VideoEditing workstations, no student should feel compelled to reach behind the machine to connect cables -- please intervene when you see this happening.
BTW, the latest updates to the NetBoot image will include:
Firefox
Cinema 4D
VSamp
Amadeus
Teleo externals for Max
The new g5's are great...but how do I hook up my external harddrive???
