Email for Students

Configuring Email Clients

Email is such a crucial part of our lives now. In addition to providing access to your email via the web (email.brown.edu), we support email configurations for the Microsoft Windows platform (Microsoft Outlook & Outlook Express) & the Apple platform (Entourage & MacMail). There are several configurations we can help you configure so that you get the most out of your email experience @ Brown University.

You can add alternate email addresses as long as you don't choose an inappropriate name. Students who wish to add an alternate email address will need to go to the Computing Accounts and Passwords (CAP) office, located at the Help Desk.

Email Quota

Students are given 50 MB of storage space for email on the central Exchange mail server. When a mailbox reaches 90% capacity, a warning is automatically generated and will continue to be sent daily until more than 10% of free space becomes available. When a message is sent to a completely filled mailbox, it is bounced back to the sender explaining that the recipient's mailbox is full. Remember that the contents of your Deleted Items folder counts against your quota.

You can check the size of your mailbox and your current available space by going to http://www.brown.edu/myaccount and clicking the Quota Usage link on the left.
