The Information Security Group (ISG) is the central contact for all security-related issues at Brown University. The roles and responsibilities of the ISG include:
- Advocate for utilizing security best practices in the electronic environment
- Directing all network security audits and tasks
- Providing technical vision and leadership in support of the continued development of Brown's IT security architecture
- Support of and collaboration with the University's information technology specialists, in both central services and departmental settings.
- Consultation with key staff from University business offices to develop policies and best practices in support of Brown's technology infrastructure
The ISG is the prime contact for security breaches, which includes but is not limited to:
- Security attacks that compromise a personal computer
- Compromises of Brown's computing systems or its network
- Computing activities that do not comply with established policies, including copyright infringement, harassment of others via email, breaching another's privacy, or capturing other users' passwords, as specified in Brown's Acceptable Use Policy
