Got SAV?

You may have an anti-virus program installed on your computer, but is it the latest, Brown version of Symantec AntiVirus? And why use Brown's version of SAV? Here are seven good reasons:

  1. Both Symantec Antivirus for Windows (Managed Mode) and Symantec Antivirus for Macintosh are available from the software download page. They are configured for Brown's environment to provide optimum protection.

  2. Any Brown University faculty and staff member or registered student may install SAV on their own computer at no cost.

  3. Windows users -- whose machines are more commonly targeted for virus outbreaks -- benefit from the advantage of running a "Managed Mode" version of SAV. CIS checks for threats centrally and can "push" out the latest updates to SAV in a timely fashion from a central server to Windows desktops with Brown's SAV (Managed Mode) client installed and connected to the network. NOTE: This option only permits CIS to manage your anti-virus software without permitting access to any data on your computer. Thus, having the Brown version of SAV installed allows you to focus on the work you need to do while CIS monitors for viruses.

  4. In addition, SAV now provides enhanced protection from spyware and adware for Windows users. New features include: real-time protection to reduce the risk of spyware reaching the system (miminizes any time lags between available fixes and installation on your computer); easy disposal of security risks with its automatic removal capabilities; and, side-effect repair, which makes it easier to clean up after a hard-to-find spyware infection (such as registry entries, files, and browser settings).

  5. SAV 10 for Macintosh has improved capability for users running OS X.3 and X.4 over previous versions of NAV.

  6. And for those using CIS Computer Clusters, note that SAV is installed on those computers, allowing you to scan your portable media.

  7. And last, but certainily not least, it is more efficient for the Help Desk staff to work with standard versions of software.
