Virus Advisory: May 2005

WINDOWS VIRUS ALERT: W32.Mytob.CU@mm, W32.Mydoom.BU@mm and Variants on Campus

W32.Mytob.CU@mm and W32.Mydoom.BU@mm and some variants of these have appeared on campus. The email carries zip file attachments with various names.

LiveUpdate definitions are now detecting most of these threats, and the SAV "managed" server also has up-to-date definitions.

If you did not attempt to open the attachment you are safe. Never open unexpected attachments!

Windows Virus Alert: W32.Sober.O@mm

CIS has received reports of virus activity on campus, proliferating through email and affecting Windows computers (95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP and Windows Server 2003).

W32.Sober.O@mm spreads using the email subject "Registration Information" and may be in German or English. Details of the virus and removal instructions can be viewed at: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sober.o@mm.html

Be sure that you have Symantec Antivirus installed with updated virus definitions, and never open unexpected attachments.
