Cellular Communication Devices and Plans:

Brown University's primary wireless carrier is ATT. Nextel service is available for users who require 'push to talk' functionality.

All University devices ordered through AT&T are put on a standard voice plan which gives users 300 pooled minutes/month for $34.99 . This plan includes mobile to mobile (AT&T only) calling, nationwide long distance and nights and weekend calling. Users who expect to text frequently should add an additional text plan to their order.

$69.99 unlimited international data with no voice plan

$64.99 unlimited international data with a $34.99 voice pooled plan

$3.99 World Connect plan – for users calling internationally when in the U.S.

$5.99 Global Connect plan – for users traveling internationally and using their voice plan

The AT&T text messaging plans are as follows:

200 text messages for $5.00

1500 text messages for $15.00

Unlimited texting for $20.00

Blackberry service:

For all new blackberry devices, there is a one-time $200.00 activation fee to license your Blackberry on Brown's Blackberry enterprise server (BES) so that your device will receive push-based Exchange email and calendaring information..

International Cellular Calling

If you need to use a University-issued cellular device (GSM-capable cellular phone, Blackberry or iPhone) while travelling abroad on University business, an international cellular plan will provide discounted International rates for voice and data services.  To activate an International calling plan on your University-issued cellular device, contact Telecommunications by sending an e-mail to telecommunications@brown.edu. 

Please include:

  1.    the date by which you need the plan active (minimum of 5 days' notice prior to activation)
  2.    the country from which or to which you will be calling
  3.    the date the plan can be deactivated. 

The cost of the plans varies by device. Telecommunications will reply to your email confirming the activation date, the cost of the plan and the deactivation date.
