  • Why Does My VPN disconnect after a short amount of time?
  • Using a VPN connection wirelessly or on dialup are two of the most    common connectivity issues. The VPN is a very sensitive connection and after a short amount of time without communication with your computer it will automatically disconnect. Often the brief disruptions in communication between a computer and a server caused by a slow dialup connection or a wireless connection is enough to do this. Usually, these two fixes will remedy normal connection issues.

Be sure you have the most current version of VPN, Currently Brown is offering Version 4.8. If you do not have the most current version it can be downloaded and installed at software.brown.edu .

You can also enable “Transport Tunneling” This is done by:
Opening your VPN client à clicking the “Modify” button à selecting the “Transport” Tab à checking off “Enable Transport Tunneling” à then selecting “IPSec over TCP”. Your TC Port  should equal 443

Often personal routers and firewalls can cause VPN connection problems and need to be adjusted according to manufacturer specifications.

Dear Graduating Undergraduate, Graduate Students, and Medical Students

If you graduate this May 2007, your Brown email account and MyStuff file services will close on September 25, 2007. Please note that this is the only message you will receive advising you that your Brown email and MyStuff account will be closing, so mark this important date on your calendar.

    September 25, 2007

To help you prepare for this change, please read the following information and instructions.

    -  Clean out your Brown mailbox and forward any important email messages to another email account.

    - Copy your Contact List and your Address Book to an archive file.

    - Clean up your MyStuff Account.

    - Any attachments will be deleted with your email messages so if they are important save them to your computer or to an external storage device.

If you already have another email account and would like your Brown email messages to be forwarded to your new email account, clean up your Brown mailbox (once you change your email to a external address, your Brown account will be disabled and mailbox will be deleted) and then go to the following url to update your delivery location (www.brown.edu/myaccount).
