Reading Groups for 2022-2023 Announced!

We are excited to announce the continuation of our CLACS-sponsored reading groups for the 2022-2023 academic year! Each academic year, CLACS offers funding for student/faculty reading groups.

Groups are required to meet at least four times per academic year in order to read interdisciplinary scholarship, dialogue with invited visitors, and/or workshop participants’ writing. It is expected that groups are open to anyone interested, draw from at least two departments, and have at least 5 regular members including at least one faculty member and one graduate student.

We have an exciting lineup of groups to share, with support from our wonderful affilliated faculty and graduate students, 

South American Archaeology and Ethnohistory
This reading group supports academic research and training for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars at Brown whose work focuses on the history and archaeology of South America before the 19th Century. For more information, contact Parker VanValkenburgh at parker_vanvalkenburgh@brown.edu.

Contemporary Andean Literature
This reading group seeks to engage into dialogue with contemporary writers from Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru, whose work addresses issues of migration, extractivism, gender, class, racism, and colonialism. For more information, contact Mateo Diaz Choza at mateo_diaz_choza@brown.edu.

Dark Atlas of Latin America: Mapping Recent Hispanophone Horror Fiction
This reading group will discuss a constellation of Latin American and Caribbean writers whose novels and short stories led to a renaissance in horror fiction. For more information, contact Erica Durante at erica_durante@brown.edu.
