Declaring a Concentration
All students are required to declare a concentration midway through their fourth semester (October 30 this fall and April 16 in the spring). Sophomore Advising Days, which run from October 1-11 this fall, are designed to help you get a jumpstart on the declaration process. During this time, you can attend special concentration forums and other events that will help you think broadly and carefully about your concentration options. This is also a good time to meet with your academic advisor to discuss possible concentrations.
You’ll also want to meet with the concentration advisors in departments that interest you. Departments approach advising in various ways; consult the department or program website you are interested in for information about the advising system and whom to contact. Contact a concentration advisor early in the spring semester to set up a time to meet. Their schedules are very full, and you want to make sure that you are able to meet with him or her prior to the deadline for filing your concentration forms.
