Sophomore Reconnections
At Brown, the first year of study is typically a time of exploration. Students are encouraged to sample courses from a wide range of disciplines and to keep an open mind about the academic areas in which they might develop an established interest or discover a completely new passion. As a sophomore, you may feel some pressure to make some decisions; after all, you’ll need to declare your concentration in the spring (by April 16).
The range of choices you have—and the decisions you have to make—may seem daunting. But remember that you are not required to decide everything all at once, or all alone. You began to build a network of people in your first year who can continue to offer you guidance, and who can help you explore options that will make your sophomore year rich and meaningful.
Click on the links at left to read more about the special programs we have for sophomores and the people at Brown who are ready to reconnect with you—or connect with you for the first time—as you progress through your second year of study. You will also want to read Planning Your Sophomore Year, a resource and advising guide that we’ve placed in your campus mailbox. You can download a PDF of the brochure by clicking on the link at right.
