January @ Brown

January @ Brown is a student-initiated winter break program for Brown undergraduates. Incorporating short, non-credit-bearing seminars, an evening lecture series, on-campus programming, and off-campus activities, in addition to housing and a meal plan, January @ Brown offers students an opportunity to explore interdisciplinary topics and to build community with other students.

In the last two years, January @ Brown has included the following courses:

Caught in the Web: The Internet, Politics and Public Policy
From the Iron Age to the Iron Chef: Food, Culture, and History
Say Something: The Science of the Collaborative Process
Storytelling and Urban Engagement: Providence Narratives

Co-curricular and social activities have included a tour of the John Hay rare collections, workshops such as "The Road Map to a Fellowship" and "What You Need to Know Before You Study Abroad," a tour of Federal Hill, ice skating, and salsa dancing.

Students pay a fee to participate in January @ Brown. Financial aid may be available for students currently receiving Brown financial aid.
